Set to launch in fall 2014, the MA in Art and Design History and Theory * is a two-year graduate program offered uniquely at Parsons Paris. Students have the option to pursue one of three tracks in this program, choosing among Design Studies, Fashion Studies, and the History of Decorative Arts and Design. In Design Studies, students critically examine theoretical, historical, philosophical and social issues in relation to design practice, products, and discourse. In Fashion Studies, students develop a critical understanding of fashion in relation to issues of identity, history and culture in the contemporary world. Students pursuing their graduate work in the History of Decorative Arts and Design seek to understand objects as intersections of material culture, social history, and aesthetic theory. Taking advantage of the many collections and archives in Paris, this graduate program emphasizes object-based teaching and hands-on experience in museum practice.
