Faculty, Fashion History, Art and Design History and Theory

Emilie Hammen is a PhD candidate in Art History at Université Paris 1, Panthéon-Sorbonne, and a researcher/lecturer at the Institut Français de la Mode, Paris. Her research focuses on the historiography of fashion.

She holds an MA in Fashion Design from the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Appliqués Duperré and a postgraduate degree in Fashion Design from the Institut Français de la Mode. She also completed an MA in Art History at Université Paris 1.

A practitioner as well as a theorist, she worked as a designer for Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs from 2009 to 2014. She assisted curators for the Design Parade festival and competition (Hyères, France) from 2005 to 2010 and has worked for trend forecasting companies.

Her articles on contemporary fashion and her research papers have been published in Mode de Recherche, L’Architectured’Aujourd’hui, Magazine, and in the most recent book published by the Institut Français de la Mode, “Repères/Mode et Luxe. Economie, culture et marketing” (2014). She also writes on design and fashion for the independent online review Strabic (http://www.strabic.fr)
