On December 6 – 2017, the course Fashion Systems and Global Perspectives have hosted the artist Olfa Ben Ali who presented her latest project Re-fuse Magazine. This project tackles the issues of aesthetics and refugee, problematizing the ways in which refugees have been represented in media. In this work, Ben Ali employed the medium of the fashion glossy magazine to hack the languages of fashion and rethink new possible ways to represent refugees. Re-fuse Magazine does this by engaging and pushing collaboration between Syrian writers, artists and makers with well known artists like Ai WeiWei, Bas Kosters or Lucy Orta or photographers like Barbara Visser.
