On March 7th 2017, the Fashion Studies Masters’ class for the Fashion Cultures course took a field trip to the flagship store of the brand Études, Artlist Agent Company, and Ofr bookshop.

In the first part of the field trip, the graduate students spoke with José Lamali, Design and Production Director of Études. Lamali briefly introduced the brand concept and business strategy to the students. As a relatively new brand, Études started in 2012, and is based between Paris and New York. Études not only focused on menswear production but also on publications, in order to create a global experience of visual culture. The visual merchandising in the store perfectly meets the philosophy of Études, where they displayed diverse styles, abstract paintings, and contemporary landscapes alongside garments and publications. Towards the end of the discussion, Lamali answered several questions from the students ranging from manufacture process to future opportunities of the brand.

After meeting with Lamali, the students headed to the company Artlist (an agency that scouts talent, secures prominent jobs for and placements for artists in various art /fashion related activities and occasions. Artlist’s carries on diverse and distinct types of artists including photographers, film makers, stylists, hair artists, makeup artists, manicurists, set designers, illustrators, art consultants and so on. The agent Julie Berton also talked about her personal experiences as an artist agent in the industry. Lastly, Berton showcased some of the artists’ works to the students.

The final part the trip, the students went to Ofr bookshop, which specialized in selling art related books and magazines. The students found Ofr bookshop to be a perfect place, to find various sources for the researches conducted for the fashion studies courses. Ofr also has an additional gallery space located towards the back of the bookstore that allows artists and authors to host special occasional activities.
