Last week, the first-year MA Fashion Studies students visited one of the largest global textile fairs in the world, Première Vision Paris, held in Villepinte, France. Students were able to witness and engage with six of the major businesses within the textile industry, including yarns, fabrics, leather, designs, accessories, and manufacturing. Over 1,900 exhibitors from around 57 countries were presented in the showcase, featuring some of the most cutting-edge developments within textile manufacturing and the technological industry as a whole.

Alongside the individual company booths throughout the venue, there were various focus areas tailored towards certain topics and upcoming trends for Fall/Winter 2019 – sportswear, responsible production, evening wear, knits, and more. Attendees had the opportunity to have a tactile experience with these fabric stations featuring some of the newest innovations in textile design. Color trends for the upcoming seasons, featuring rusty jewel tones and candy-like pastels, were showcased throughout the exhibition centre as well.

The Première Vision visit was preceded by a guest lecture from Brankica Chauvain, a textile artist and professor at Parsons Paris, on textile recognition and theory. The students who attended the exhibition plan to present their research on the developing trends within the textile industry on Oct. 14th in the Parsons Paris Gallery.
