On September 11th, 2018, the first-year MA Fashion Studies class at Parsons Paris welcomed Sabine Le Chatelier for a guest lecture on textiles and trade fairs.

Sabine is a consultant, design and creative advisor who has been working in the fashion industry for over four decades. Her professional path began as a textile and design assistant, working at Nelly Rodi and DMD Texunion. In 1988, she was hired by Peclers Paris, where she worked as a colorist and design consultant as well as on the trend books for fashion textiles. In 2005, she became Première Vision’s Deputy Fashion Director, where she worked on trend forecasting, design and artistic direction for the fairs, analysis of exhibitors applications files, monitoring of trend forums, and on the communication and creation of content. Besides that, she’s been involved in education by being part of several juries for schools such as the ENSCI and ESMOD, and lecturing at both high school and university level.

The morning began with Sabine talking about the structure of the textile industry and giving the students a sketch of its global landscape. This led to an analysis of the top ten manufacturing exporting countries, as well as an examination of the challenges that the textile industry faces with the change of the traditional model and the accelerating fashion system. She then proceeded to discuss the role of trade shows nowadays and used Première Vision as an example to better explain how the fairs work. To close, Sabine prepared the class for their upcoming Première Vision visit, giving some tips and advice in order to make the most of it.
